THE PICTURE RESTORER
THE JOURNAL OF THE BRITISH ASSOCIATION OF PAINTINGS CONSERVATOR - RESTORERS
The Picture Restorer is the journal of the British Association of Paintings Conservator-Restorers (BAPCR). It was first published in 1992 under the editorship of Simon Padfield. It was set up with the aim of representing the specific interests of Paintings Conservators-Restorers, working in private practice as well as for heritage institutions.
In January 2010, The Picture Restorer was re-launched with an updated format under a new editorial team. Published twice yearly, The Picture Restorer still represents the only British journal focusing specifically on the conservation of paintings, and functions to unite those working in museums, heritage institutions, and in the private sector. The intention is to give a practical bias to our features, encouraging the exchange of ideas within the conservation community. Although it is aimed at Paintings Conservators, it will also be of interest to students of conservation, conservation scientists and art historians. The current journal is comprised of 52 pages, in A4 format, and is issued in Spring and Autumn.
The editorial team currently consists of seven volunteers:
- Sarah Maisey, Editor (Paintings Conservator at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich).
- Paul Gardener, Website Manager (Free-lance Paintings Conservator based in London).
- Sally Marriott, Feature Editor (Paintings Conservation Research Assistant at National Portrait Gallery and free-lance in London).
- Carol Lyons, Feature Editor (Paintings Conservator at the the Glyn Vivian Art Gallery in Swansea, currently seconded to the National Museum of Wales).
- Aalia Kamal, Subscriptions Administrator (Paintings Conservation Student, Hamilton Kerr Institute, Cambridge).
- Laura Hinde, Subscriptions Administrator (Paintings Conservator at the National Portrait Gallery and free-lance in London).
- Nancy Wade, Advertising Account Manager (Paintings Conservator at Guildhall Art Gallery and free-lance in London).
We are seeking people to join our research and review teams. If you would like to get involved, or you feel that you have a particular skill to offer, then please let us know!
